PC Motherboards

A motherboard is the foundation of a computer system. The CPU, RAM, storage, graphics card and other components are connected to it, while the motherboard determines hardware compatibility, expansion options and available interfaces.

How to choose a motherboard

The first step is choosing the processor and its socket. The motherboard must support the specific CPU and processor generation. You should then consider the chipset, memory type, number of slots and storage connectivity.

DDR4 or DDR5

Check which memory standard the motherboard supports before buying. DDR4 and DDR5 are not interchangeable, so the memory type must match the motherboard. If you plan to upgrade the system later, consider the number of RAM slots and maximum supported capacity.

Motherboard form factors

The motherboard size affects case compatibility and expansion options. Common formats include ATX, Micro-ATX and Mini-ITX. Larger boards can provide more room for expansion, while smaller form factors are useful for compact PC builds.

Connectivity and expansion

Before purchasing, check PCI Express slots, M.2 and SATA storage connections, USB ports, networking, audio and other interfaces. Gaming and workstation builds may also benefit from additional expansion slots and storage connectivity.

At Laptop One, you can compare specifications and buy a motherboard for your PC based on processor compatibility, memory support, case size and the requirements of your planned build.
